I was discussing “predestination” with a friend…

and I asked him what he thought about it. He replied, “I don’t know if I can believe that God predestines people.”

I then asked him why that was. I was expecting to hear the answer that you usually expect, like, “I just don’t think God is fair in electing some, but not others,” or “I just can’t believe in a God who would do that.” But his answer blew me.

He said to me, “Because man… I just don’t see how God would predestine a guy as screwed up as me.” I just wanted to cry right there.

I emphatically told him, “That’s the point! That’s the beauty! That’s glory of election! God chose you because you’re screwed up, sinful, wicked, corrupt, and depraved. All so that He could say, ‘Look at where you were… but look at where I brought you.’ God glories in taking jacked up sinners like you and me and making us sons.”

It was a great moment. It reminded me of the beauty of God single handedly snatching me up out of the darkness and bring me into His marvelous light. God is a God who saves, brothers and sisters.

Let’s never be ashamed to celebrate that.
